A great method of searching the water is to use a small nymph hanging under a large klinkhammer. This is tied “New Zealand” style by tying a length of mono directly on to the bend of the hook of the klinkhammer so the nymph hangs directly underneath. Anyone who has tried this knows how frustrating tying this knot know can be!
